Last week, the 7th graders learned all about the Legislative branch of the Constitution. Students compared the House of Representatives and the Senate and acted out scenarios of how a bill becomes a law. They also participated in a "Legislator's Challenge" simulation, where they were put in the shoes of a member of the House of Representatives. Their goal was to pass a bill, but they soon realized that they had many factors to consider, such as lobbyists, mark-up sessions, staying popular with the voters, and representing the views of one's political party. This week, the students will learn about Article II- The Executive Branch.
Questions for your 7th grader:
How does a bill become a law?
School House Rock, again!
Would you like to be a member of congress someday? Why or why not?
